Hello.
I'm Steve Boots.
My first experience with computers was in 1974,
when I took a programming class in college. I got to sit at an IBM
Selectric terminal and type simple programs on green bar paper and
execute them on the college mainframe system. I was hooked. I didn't set
out to work in computers, but graduated from New York Institute of
Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Technology. Upon
graduation I worked in the steel industry for quite a few years as an
estimator. Eventually my love of computers came together with my job
when we computerized much of the shop and I was in charge of all of it.
Unfortunately, the company I was with closed its doors
and I was unemployed in 1991. I landed employment with UPS in
Information Services where I began in technical support for our customer
shipping and tracking systems. I am now the Reliability Manager for the
Customer Information Management department where I have the
responsibility for monitoring and reporting on outages and problems
impacting all customer facing systems, many of them accessible via
UPS.com, but also including the UPS OnLine suite of products used
internationally.
My first personal computer was an IBM PC with 2 floppy
drives and no hard disk. It had a color display and a dot matrix
printer. That was about 20 years ago and my love of computers has only
grown with the expansion of what we know as the Internet. I love to lend
a helping hand with computer problems as much of what I have learned has
been from others mentoring me.
I live in NJ with my wife, Pennie, along with 2 cats
and 3 dogs. I look forward to helping you learn to enjoy these
marvelous machines!
